Picture of the Week

For week of 7/30/11: World Trade Center Window Glass, NY

World Trade Center Glass

We visited the "Ground Zero Workshop Museum" in New York, NY. The curator, who personally collected the artifacts at Ground Zero, explained that the most amazing thing about Ground Zero is not what was found, but what wasn't found. Between the two towers there were 220 floors of office space yet not one chair was found; not one desk was found; not one filing cabinet was found; not one laptop was found; not one telephone was found intact. Both towers had thick window glass all around but glass was one of the rarest items found at Ground Zero. It is estimated that 99% of the window glass was pulverized into powder or melted into sand. The museum was quite moving. Above is a photo of window glass found at Ground Zero.
