Great Sand Dunes National Park, Colorado


Below: When you're driving toward the park you see what appears to be a large pile of sand with some mountains behind it.

Below: As you get closer you see that it really is a large pile of sand.

Below: It turns out that the area is naturally sandy and the wind blows the sand toward the mountains. The sand can't blow over the mountains so it just whips up into a pile. The pile is now 750 feet tall.

Below: There is a little creek that runs in front of the sand pile.

Below: There is really only two things you can do here: look at the sand pile, or walk around on the sand pile. Neither seemed too interesting to us so we left.
