Glacier Bay National Park, Alaska
We stayed in Glacier Bay Lodge and took a boat tour of this beautiful park where we saw lots of wildlife - mostly from a distance.
Below: We saw puffins and a bald eagle standing on an iceberg ...

... otters and a grizzly bear ...

... humpback whales and killer whales ...

... a harbor seal ...

... lots of sea lions ...

... and some mountain goats high on a hill.

Below: Of course we saw glaciers up close. This is the 21-mile-long Margerie Glacier. There was some crackling and small pieces of ice dropping into the bay but no big calving occured. When you're next to a large glacier it's like being next to your refrigerator with the freezer door open.

Below: The deep blue ice of the Lamplugh Glacier.

Below: We netted a chunk of ice from the bay. The ranger said that some of this ice is made from snow that fell 1,000 years ago.

Below: It was a cold, rainy day but we got to see some wonderful things.
